We are told all the time that we all need to slow down and have more stillness in our lives…..but what exactly is ‘Stillness’?
“…Stillness is the deep intrinsic ground from which all manifestations arises. It is the ground of potential from which the breath of life arises..” – Franklyn Sills
Stillness is a powerful thing and everyone needs to experience stillness as it will only enhance the human experience. We live in a twenty four seven non stop modern world that encourages us to be always on the move and to live in a manner that is far removed from stillness.
When you first experience stillness your mind empties of thoughts or at least you develop an awareness of your thinking as your thoughts slow down and then dissolve. It is within this emptiness that comes expansiveness and timelessness and these will also take you further and deeper into stillness.
When you take a felt sense of stillness as a practitioner to the client then their system and their relationship field has the opportunity to respond and maybe mirror the sense of stillness in your system. The potential for healing exists within this gift. Stillness is not a void but it is in fact an experience teaming with life information and potential. It can lead to inspiration, creative solutions to situations that prmay help overcome poblems in a persons life. There is a potential endless depth to the experience of stillness. Stillness is the essence of the biodynamic cranio sacral therapy.
Many people first experience stillness through the practice of meditation. Stillness first came into my life by accident after regular meditation practice. I wasn’t expecting it but I suddenly found myself with little or no mind activity and loved it as my energy rose and a sense of peace flooded my body. Silence is also very helpful when first finding stillness with your system. Stillness is ever present in life and is to be found everywhere. Eckhart Tolle says the first skill to learn is to listen to the silence between the dogs bark, but then he says the real skill is to listen for the silence in the dogs bark…!! Basically, to me he is saying that its fairly easy to find stillness in the tranquillity of a beauitful forest under a full moon on a calm night but the real skill is to be able to find the same stillness in the centre of a busy city like London..!
When you master this skill of finding stillness everywhere in your life a permanent stillness becomes always available to you no matter what activity you are engaged with.
